About PuttingFamilyFirst.org
PuttingFamilyFirst.org is a directory of therapists whose stated focus includes parenting and family life. It exists to make one thing easier: working out which of them might be a fit for what your household is dealing with, without ringing round.
First, how this site is paid for
PuttingFamilyFirst.org is a commercial directory. It is free to use and carries no advertising, but if you go on to sign up with a therapist through a link here, this site will earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
We are saying that first because the name and the .org address could easily give the impression this is a charity or a public service. It is not, and it is not affiliated with any government programme or nonprofit. The commission does not change who is listed or the order they appear in.
Who is listed
The directory currently holds 16,057 therapists, organised across 77 topics and 21 ways of working. Every one of them lists parenting or family among the areas they work with.
That is a broad group on purpose. Family difficulties rarely arrive on their own - a child's behaviour, a marriage under strain, a separation, an ageing parent, and the person's own anxiety or grief are usually tangled together. Restricting the list to people who describe themselves as family specialists would have hidden a lot of therapists who do this work every week.
It also means you should read the profiles rather than trust the category. A therapist appearing under a topic means they list it among their focus areas, not that they are a certified expert in it.
Sessions happen online
These are online practices, so there are no offices, no waiting rooms, and no travel. Where you live does not limit who you can choose, as long as the therapist is licensed to work with clients in your state - each profile lists where they hold a licence.
Where the information comes from
Therapist details - credentials, licences, years in practice, focus areas and ways of working - come from BetterHelp, the platform these therapists work through. We do not collect it from therapists directly and we do not verify licences ourselves.
The written summaries on each profile are produced with the help of AI, working only from those facts. They are written not to add anything that is not in the source information - no invented specialisms, diagnoses, availability or results. If something looks wrong, please tell us and we will correct it.
How listings are ordered
Therapists currently taking new clients appear first. Beyond that, ordering is not for sale: no therapist pays to be listed, to rank higher, or to be featured. There are no ratings or reviews here, because we have no reliable source for them and would rather show nothing than invent a score.
What this site is not
PuttingFamilyFirst.org is not a healthcare provider, a clinic, or a therapy practice. We do not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, we are not part of your care, and nothing here is a substitute for speaking to a professional. We are also not BetterHelp, and we are not involved in your sessions or any arrangement you make.
Deciding whether a particular therapist is right for your family is your call, and worth taking your time over.
If you or someone in your family is in crisis, call 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or text HOME to 741741. In an emergency, call 911. If a child is at risk, contact your local child protective services or call 1-800-422-4453 (Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline).
If you are a therapist listed here
If you would like your profile corrected or removed, contact us and it will be dealt with. Removal means the profile is taken down across the site, not just hidden from search. You do not need to explain why.

Questions, corrections and removal requests all go through the contact page.
